Digital Foundry says Capcom has done a fantastic job porting Monster Hunter Rise to the PS5. Their latest analysis shows that the current-gen game is a near-perfect upgrade to the original Switch version, delivering 60 frames per second across the board, while also boasting PC-like graphics options you can tweak through the in-game menu.
You can go all out at 60fps in priority frame rate mode, choose a nice balance from the default mode, or push the visuals as hard as possible in priority graphics mode. In addition to these presets, you can adjust individual values such as texture quality, shadow quality, and even vegetation sway.
No matter which setting you choose, Rise always targets 60fps and maintains it almost all the time, even when you’ve pushed the graphics to the limit – which is nice to see.
In fact, Digital Foundry seems to be underwhelming here, especially when it comes to graphics-centric presets. According to their findings, the game actually “increases resolution by 125 percent,” delivering a 4800×2700 image at 4K resolution. “Or in other words, it’s rendered at 4.8K resolution — adding a strong form of anti-aliasing by downscaling the high-res image to 4K,” Digital Foundry explained. Neat!
It’s clear Capcom has created something special with its RE Engine, which continues to be astoundingly versatile.
