While the iPad Pro lineup has seen some minor revisions recently, things have remained largely unchanged since the introduction of the current-generation design language in 2018. However, according to a new report, as Apple prepares to launch a “major revamp of next year’s iPad Pro”…
The iPad Pro is getting a major makeover next year
in his latest version Open communication, bloomberg Mark Gurman reports that this year will be a “light year” for the iPad lineup. Gurman said we shouldn’t expect “anything noteworthy” from the iPad Pro, nor will there be any “significant updates” to the entry-level iPad, iPad mini, or iPad Air.
Looking ahead to 2024, however, things will get even more exciting. Gurman reports that Apple is preparing a “major revamp” of the iPad Pro, which could debut in the spring. The revamp should offer a “refreshed design” as well as an upgrade to an OLED display for the first time.
Gurman reports:
I don’t think there will be any major updates to the entry-level models, iPad mini or Air in 2023. There’s certainly nothing noteworthy about the iPad Pro this year. Instead, look for a major revamp of the iPad Pro next spring, complete with a refreshed design and OLED screen for the first time.
As for what this new iPad Pro might look like, we’ve heard some mixed rumors lately. Reports have suggested that Apple may update the design of the iPad Pro with a glass back instead of the current aluminum unibody design. Apple is also considering bringing MagSafe charging to the iPad Pro lineup, similar to the MagSafe technology used on the iPhone.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that Apple plans to switch the iPad Pro to an OLED display as soon as next year, either. Analyst Ross Young recently reported that the first OLED-equipped iPad Pro is expected to debut in 2024 alongside an OLED-equipped MacBook Air.
There are also reports that Apple is considering expanding the iPad product line to larger screen sizes, such as 14 inches or even 16 inches. Whether these new screen sizes will debut as part of the iPad Pro overhaul is unclear.
We expect more leaks to come as Apple moves toward its goal of launching a new iPad Pro in the spring of 2024. In the meantime, what’s your best guess about this iPad Pro makeover? Share it with us in the comments.
